It is real, but very difficult and very rare. I believe only the strongest and most compassionate of us are really capable of it.

You "can" forgive someone completely, but the pain other person gave you may stick in your subconsciousness to a certain degree.

And what matters, I think, is the constant second chances you give people to improve themselves and be truly happy. It's not a fantasy, as forgiveness is a part of daily marriage life!!

Forgiveness means you do not intend to extract punishment or revenge for a wrong suffered.

People let things go all the time.  I suspect though that by 100% forgiveness you are asking them to forget as well, which is a bit much.  Once bitten, twice shy and all.

I suspect 100% forgiveness is the realm of the mad and the dead.

Of course it is if you are to let go of the ego. The ego is what feels harm. But there are few who can attain this level and it is the ultimate 'road less traveled'.
