Im trying to budget....what do you think? Is this a lot for 2 people to spend on food per month? We also eat out a few times a week, not always expensive sit down restuarants but we might hit up McDonalds for breakfast if we have to be somewhere early, etc. Tips on saving on groceries? Thanks!

  1. yes we spend 100 every 2 weeks for groceries and i live with 6

  2. Yes, I spend about $40-50/week for 2 people and that includes the ocassional fast food trip.  "Fast food" is probably $10/week of that, so groceries are probably $30-$40 per week.  Cut out the restaurants and you'll save more than clipping coupons for the grocery store.

Buy generic.  Get veggies at the local farmer's market.  Shop on the outer aisles of the grocery store and actually cook instead of buying pre-packaged meals.  Avoid the high-priced heat-em-up items in the middle aisles.  It's healthier to stay out of those aisles anyway.

  3. It's not that bad.  I have a family of 4 and we spend about $150 a week and that includes a 3 year old that doesn't eat much.

  4. Actually this is about how much I spend per week for two people.  50 dollars for one person is fine.  Saving on groceries, I'm a huge fan of Wal-Mart Supercenters, they are virtually the cheapest, or Sam's Club for certain things.  Also, some of the ones where you get a card, i.e. Stop n Shop or Big Y or whatever can be cheaper when they have good sales.  Shop around and hunt for sales and bargains and you may be able to do better than 100 per week.

  5. Wow, that is nothing!.  That is what some people spend for one person alone in a week.  That is definitely good budgeting.

  6. I really don't think it's too much, not for this day and age anyway.

  7. I'm in the mid-west and that is what we budget for groceries and I also kicked in $200 for misc food items like eatting out/ convient stops etc.

  8. Ten years ago, yes, today no. Enjoy life because you'll never know when it will end.

  9. So you are spending $400 a month on food for 2 people? It seems a bit high.
