Is 1080i a better picture quality than 720p?

and will blu ray disk play on a 1080i/720 p tv?

I have a dynex 37" 720p lcd hdtv

The native resolution of your display is the best possible picture quality you can get. Meaning, if you have a 720p TV, then your image won't get any better than 720p. The TV will convert any incoming signal to match the displays native resolution. On your set, setting your device's output to 720p should yield the best results.

it will play but not at 1080 anything... only 720p..

and its 480 to 720 to 1080i to 1080p..
