  1. unless you have high defenition channels there is no point in buying even a 1080i tv go out and gut a 720p 37 inch tv you will save a ton of money

  2. for anything less than 50 inches, you won't notice the difference between 720p or 1080p.

and if you are watching regular dvd, it doesn't matter the screen size, 720p and 1080p will look the same.

For the same money, buy a larger screen size at 720p.

note: grandsta below is grandstanding.  either he/she sits a few feet from the tv, or really doesn't have one but wishes he/she did, and reads the fanatic websites about hdtv.  Normal people (including me a licensed professional electrical engineer) can see that 720p looks excellent.

Also note, the cable comment is wrong - this is digital, any cheap cable will work fine.

note2: grandsta is getting pissy that i took a shot back. (grandsta gave several of us thumbs down, i gave one back to him/her)

If you are concerned now because of grandsta, here is a good link to read about the differences, and that below 50 inches, you really will not notice.

    quote from the pro there

"Our resident video guru, Senior Editor David Katzmaier, stands by what he said two years ago: The extra sharpness afforded by the 1080p televisions he's seen is noticeable only when watching 1080i or 1080p sources on a larger screens, say 55 inches and bigger, or with projectors that display a wall-size picture. "

grandsta your polite response does not negate the wrongness of your initial answer, nor your response.  The only way it would matter is if the OP had a 1080 source (he doesn't) and if he was sitting real close to this TV (not normal for most folks.)

    ---------

the negative thumbs downs on the first 3 posts (which are all 3 correct) are most likely given by the last 3 posters (which are all wrong by any stretch of the imagination.)

  3. Trust me you will notice it

  4. yo i hav a vizio 37" lcd tv and its 720p/1080i

btw almost every HDTV can do both 720p and 1080i(not 1080p)

my tv looks great on fios hd (sd and hd channels) on 1080i

so def no need for 1080p(waste of money)

ONLY if the TV is 42+ wood i even think of 1080p

  5. h**l Yes!

  6. It really doesn't matter the size of the TV 1080P is noticeable ON ANYTHING. Those that say it doesn't matter either 1. don't have the proper cables or 2. bought a bottom line and didn't focus on the things below I will mention

That said you have to have the proper cables (and of course subscribe to HD TV).  Also I believe, now don't quote me but I believe that the camera's some use are not 1080P (yet anyway)

Another thing to consider is the bit quality both processing and display will also greatly affect your picture quality.  You could be looking at two TVs both 1080P HD but will have a 10 bit display and 14 bit video processor the other an 8bit display and 8bit processor.  You certainly can tell the difference between the two.  The 10 Bit display will be incredibly sharper.

This also goes with the Hz of the refresh rate. 60Hz refresh rate will not look as good as a 120Hz refresh rate.

its not JUST the resolution you need be concerned with now.  Most TVs in a reasonable price range will have 1080P its all the other things you need to also look for.

Note: OSMR2Rabbit - I didn't give a thumbs down reveiw to anyone. I don't review what other people say because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Note: You can find anything on the internet.  Just today for example I read one reveiw that said Samsungs were the best  TV's on the market and two other reveiws saying that Sony and Toshiba are the best TV's on the market.   Any thing, wther it be on the internet or in a store, or talking to people is all going to be different.  Evryone will have a different answer, some will be simular and others will be very different and contrary.   The best advice I could give you is go the store  tell the sales person what you are looking for and ask them to use the same cables and same feed (Some places use bad cables on some TV and good cables and feeds on others) and compare them yourself.  In the end it is not I nor OSMR2Rabbit that is watching it is you that is watching it.  If you can't tell the difference then there is no point spending the extra cash for soemthing you don't need/want.

Note: OSMR2Rabbit, I apologize if you think I gave you a thumbs down. I'm sorry I didn't. However it is a shame you so quickly jump to conclusions.
