Is full high def, or 1080, the highest resolution that there will ever be, or will there be another leap foward in technology in a few years time?

  1. you can put money on higher res screens being on the market at some point.  I can't find the article, but somone is working on a 1440p set IIRC.

  2. No way. Film is recorded at a higher definition already. People thought 480 was the end of the road.  There is no such thing as an end of any road.  Eventually screens will get to the limit of what film offers for resolution, but then that will increas and TVs will have to catch up again.  Maybe we'll get to a day when it matches what our eye can handle, but who knows, then they can tout higher resolution as it makes your brain process it faster, or it will broadcast into your brain and not through your eyes... the future has very few limits where technology is concerned.  It will likely stay at 1080p for a while, though, as devices catch up to be able to broadcast in 1080p, such as blu-ray, but OTA and Cable isnt in 1080p yet.  When that catches up look for another bump.

  3. Nope, not the end of the line.  There are 2160p and Ultra High Definition (UHD or 4320p) technologies.  In fact these technologies already exist, however will not be available to the consumers until 2015.
