Is 10W - 40 motor oil a two stroke oil?

I have a Spear & Jackson petrol brushcutter with a 40:1 ratio for petrol: oil. The bottle that came with the brushcutter said just Two Stroke. I can't find the instructions now but I know that it said something along the lines of making sure it was a 40.

  1. no

  2. No it is not. 10W-40 is motor oil for a regular engine not a 2-stroke.40:1 refers to the mixture of gas:oil In other words 40 parts gas to 1 part oil.And the bottle will say that it is formulated for 2-stroke engines

  3. No! No! No! You must use a 2-cycle oil to mix with the gasoline . 4-stroke oil has additives which will clog things up.

  4. Absolutely not. There is another section that has it. It's more expensive, be ready for that. But you cannot use 10w-40.
