Is 115 mph on a flat serve in highschool unreasonable?

I used a formula to clock a speed of my serve from a normal camera capturing at 30 frames a second.

i did it a while back but it took 12.5 or 13.5 frames to hit.

going through the formula it clocked it at 110-117 mph.

but this seems a tad bit unrealistic.

no doubt that it is fast and if controlled can produce many aces and errors from it.

my friend was clocked at 105 mph.

i was clocked sophomore year at 90 with a flat serve.

  1. no it is good to hit fast

My friedn hits around 120 if hes on fire

  2. Its not unreasonable.  You will never know the real number if you arent on a radar gun.  My fastest was clocked at the National Tennis Center at 119.  I never thought i was that fast.  5' 10" 170lbs WIlson ProStaff 6.1 Wilson NXT stings 63 lbs.

  3. I suggest you use the same type measuring device used in the tennis industry......juggs-type gun....that will help you to be comparing apples to apples. 115mph is very satisfactory....placement becomes more important now as well as what you do following the service......are you playing on hard courts and following the first serve to net or staying back?

  4. Andre not at all. I was clocked at 120 mph and then later in my early open career at 125mph. Both times were with Wilson ProStaff 85's with gut at 64-66 lbs. Oh and just to add in as an added criteria my height was 6'3" in highschool and 6'4" later.

  5. pathetic
