  1. I'm sure some schools will take you. That's just barely within the minimum recommended at my university; meaning it's really low, but they will still consider the applicate if they have other strong points.

  2. In 7th grade (for a gifted and talented program we could take the SATs in middle school) I had an 1820 (out of 2400)... it was one of the lower scores in my middle school though. I'm guess your score is from the old test... if I'm not mistaken the national average was slightly above 1200 (out of 1600)...

  3. First off this is definitely an 'old" SAT test score, or only the scores off the critical reading and mathematics section.

The national average in the test was right around a 1000 on the test with the avg. math score slighlty lower the avg. reading score..

When you get you score you should get a percentile next to your score. When I took the SAT for the first time in 2004, I got a 530 in verbal (57 percentile) and a 610 in math (77 percentile). That gave me a 1140 at that is in the 67th percentile.  That means that if 100 took the test, I would have beat 66 of the 100 and 33 would have beaten me. Since you got a 1170, or 30 points higher, you should be in the 69th to 70th percentile.

For colleges, your score is good enough to get into a major state university. You need to increase your score by 200-300 points if you want a shot at an ivy league.

    Best of luck!
