Question:

Is 1:18 good for the 400M?

I'm 14 and I did that in very fast and cold wind blowing at me, on very soft sand that I kept sinking into, and on a fairly steep hill.

Is that a good time? And what do you think my time would be on rubber?

  1. well yeah i suppose those conditions and that time is alright. but your friend definatley not top in the country


  2. 1:18 in those conditions is very good.

    But as for your friend... 1:08 isn't a top-in-the-country time. The qualifying time to get into the states in my middle school league  is 1:03.

  3. my fastest for that when i was 13 was 1:13.....but i think it's good for a hill and sand i suppose

    i know people who can run it in like 1:05 and stuff though

  4. no i do the 400 in 1:07.1 and im a girl thats 14 and does jh track.

    and 1:07 for a guy is really bad. and hes def not top in the country.

    my time was almost like yours, i got 1:15 for 400m

    and im also 14 =]

    today i beat my record and i got 7:15 for 1600m. I'm so proud of my self =]

  6. Yeah, that's a nice time, well are you a guy or a girl? :P 78 sec isn't really a great time but if you're going up a hill into the wind it's not bad. You'll have to try again in better conditions on a good track.

    As for the kid @ your middle school who ran a 67... BS right back at you, he isn't one of the fastest in the country. I know a girl your age who runs a 65.

  7. in middle school i ran the 400m in track and would put up times of under 55 seconds. You could improve your time, and under the conditions you were in, that is a very good time. Run that on a track, in favorable conditions, and it will translate to a 1:03 or so...

    In high school, your time will have to be under 60 seconds. I made the varsity team as a frosh and my time was 49-52 seconds. you will place top three every time with a time like that. In middle school, with my time, I never came in second... run yours in 55 and you won't be beaten either.

    i can run it in 58 seconds though
