  1. yes.... 1200 is a bigger number than 800... :)

  2. Well what that basicly means...is that the higher the number...or contrast ratio, the darker the color black will be. If you have a low number then anything that is black will appear as dark grey. Anything lower than 5000:1 is not good in my books.

  3. Maybe ... it depends how it was measured. There is no standard method so some manufacturers use methods that inflate the result.

At best CR is indicative ... but you really need to judge by eye.  CR is also misleading because it is interdependent with brightness and ambient light levels.

In fact contrast ratio is almost a meaningless number. In all but an almost fully dark room, with dark walls and non-reflective furnishings most contrast ratios -- even a measured 50,000:1 -- are reduced to an EFFECTIVE CR of no more than about 2000:1 due to ambient light or reflections from the screen off room surfaces.

    See the links for details.

That all said, if measured the same way 1200:1 is better than 800:1 ... but it's not a significant difference. Neither is great. You want at least 2000:1 (as normally measured) for video, although less is OK for business presentations and games.
