Is 13 Too Late?

Hi!

I'm been an off and on again skater for a few years now (due to frequent moves). Now, I'm finally "settled" and I really want to start skating again.

I didn't skate for about a year, but after 6 months I'm at freestyle one. And I'm currently working on my scratch spin.

Unfortuneatly, I haven't ever been anywhere long enough to get this far so is there anything I should be aware of?

Like, I'm taking 30 minute private lessons once a week, but do I need any more lessons?

Should I go to spin and jump clinics?

And what exercises would be good for me too do at home?

The sad thing is, I'm not flexible but I'm willing to put in hard work, tears, sweat, and my heart into making figure skating work for me. I really want to start competitions, but anything big like Grand Prix, and the Olympics aren't in my goals,, yet =]]

13 isn't too late to begin skating, you may not be the next Olympic skater, but you can certainly skate and skate competitively. I would suggest talking to your coach about what they think is appropriate for your level of skating, and what they think you should be doing for off ice training etc. Good luck!

I think you pretty much answered your own question.  If you are really serious about putting in the hard work, tears, sweat, and the heart, then you are certainly not to old.

ur no to late. my dream is the olympics. if ur think ing of going to the olympics id say you should think fast cuz u still have a chance. and u have to train hard but u could still make it if u want.and u should get more lessons cuz cuz once a week u wont learn that fast. so i suggest like 3 or 4 more private lesson is u want to progress quickly.so good luck if u decide to train hard the ill see at the olympics

it's not too young b/c u didn't stop for too long, u just took a break. many people don't reach their physical peak until they're in their 20's, so u have 10 years to catch up-i think u can do it ;)
