I've been swimming practically my whole life but no lessons or anything like that. I just usually swim in pools and oceans but i taught myself how to do the butterfly, freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke and I also taught myself how to dive and do flip turns. I watch a lot of olympic swimming and my dream has always been to go to the olympics and win gold. I was recently thinking about swimming competitively so do you think i would have a chance to get really good and hopefully go to the olympics? (By the way i really love to swim and i swim everyday not just because i want to go to the olympics but i really truly love it and i can see myself doing this everyday of my life).

  1. go for it! you might want to get some private lessons at least for a little while just to make sure u r doing the strokes right, cuz butterfly is hard for a lot of ppl. but u sounds really good! heck, if u can swim that well in the ocean then yeah! it is never too late to do that with ur mind set like urs is, so good luck!

  2. i would say if u truly love swimming and u wouldnt mind doing it everyday for hours on end i would say sure, never to late to do anything in my opinion! and good luck i hope u get to the olympics!

  3. I think you have a chance! But you'll need to get private lessons really soon! Try joining a year around swim team. You'll get to swim everyday and work on all of the different strokes. They're really fun, and you'll get to meet other people like you that love to swim! Try Googling USA swimming, and tons of swim teams will show up. I hope I helped!

  4. No its not too early. If you want to be in the 2012 Olympics you better start practicing!

  8. no!!

they start training at like 9!

you wouldnt be good eneough in 4 years to go to the olympics at 17, and you want to start as young as possible, so going at 21 would be better.

are you ready to train 30 hours a week, have no life, friends, or free time?

    what are you times?

    thats the most important thing!!

  17. It is never too late to do anything you put your mind to.

Join a swim team (municipal or school), if you have what it takes you will rise through the ranks and start swimming in dual meets and the like.
