If you are 13 years old, do you think that is too young to take a birth control pill if you really truly are only using it to shorten your period and make PMS symptoms less severe? Honestly, they can get pretty bad.

  1. That's a tough one.  Oral contraceptives are not risk free - they contain synthetic hormones and can cause a long list of side effects, some of them devastating.  This is something that needs to be discussed at length with the prescribing clinician, the girl, and her parent(s).

Most of the time birth control pills can do wonders for making your periods more tolerable, but in someone that young, I'd be very concerned about the potential risks vs. benefits.

  2. yes don't donit

besides its good to have your period women u can't have period have promblems the stinky blood in sits in their body and u can smell it through their skin many wish they had their period

    just go natural =]

  3. These days, with girls getting their periods at the age of 9 or 10 in some cases, 13 is not too early to be on birth control.  Whether for the prevention of pregnancy or to manage symptoms of PMS, I don't know that their are any specific age restrictions for using birth control.  The truly important thing is that you minimize your risk of suffering the side effects of birth control, which are pulmonary embolism and stroke.  These risks are exponentially increased in women who smoke, so don't do it.  Talk to your doctor and if you don't currently see an OB/GYN, this is probably the time for you to start seeing one in addition to, or in place of your pediatrician.

  4. This is a matter to discuss with a doctor -- either ob-gyn or endocrinologist.

  5. no! i dint think so.
