  1. nope, i just started swimming competivly again (i stopped when i was about 9) and now im 13.

  2. No your not too old at all, never to old to compete! everyone gets expireience soem where, go to a local health club and ask about competitoins, or at your school if they have a swim team. if you really would liek to work on a team and love the water, your really like me. check out www.gocoastguard.com that will be the best! get to swim every day and save peoples lives. Rescue swimmers :) or who knows, you might make it to the olympics. 14 is actually a good age to start since your right into highschool, where competitions count.

  3. Especially since you have been taking lessons, you really should have no problem. The only thing you will have to work on his gaining some physical endurance and I don't think you'll have any problem with that, because the lessons will have already provided you with proper form.

Just as some encouragement, I used to do a ton of competitive swimming. There was a girl who joined the team when she was 15 and could barely swim two laps of the pool. Now, 4 years later, she is one of the top swimmers in our state. She is currently competing at the the senior national level and continues to get faster and faster. She is also the star distance swimmer on her college team. In short, it's never too late to start. In fact, kids who start a bit later with swimming often do better because they don't burn out from the intensity of the practices.

    Best of luck!

  4. No. There were some girls on my team at college last year who swam competitively for the first time. If you're in the United States, you can use this website to find a team in your area:

You can also check at your local YMCA, health clubs, and high school.
