My sister is building a house and all that is done yet is the foundation. The slab looks really small, but everyone keeps saying it will be fine when it is built. It is only her that will be living in it. I was just wondering what size houses some other people have.

Thanks!!! :-)

  1. For one person that sounds like plenty.

I'm actually moving into a townhouse on Tuesday with the same number of rooms and square footage. I'm moving in with another person-- and we were originally going to have one more person move in as well!

    I think she'll be quite comfortable. (:

  2. That is plenty big enough.  My house is 2000 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 2 offices, and 3 bathrooms and I went broke furnishing it!  The one I lived in before was 1200 square feet with 3 beds and only 1 bath so as long as it is laid out well it sounds just perfect.  The average home size in the US is 800 square feet (factoring in studio apartments of course) so that is just perfect.  And if she is having it built then she gets say in what goes where so the layout will be to her needs.  I've seen many homes built and the foundation always looks funny at that point!

  3. 1400 square feet is enough for one person.  But even more important is how big the yards are.  Yards make a house a home when landscaped well.

  4. ~~Actuall in the 1950's  standard homes were roughly 1,200 s.f. Because of high energy costs I think we will see a huge return to more realistic size homes instead of these 2,000 plus homes. It would be comfortable for a 4 person family. I think 1,500 to 1,600 is a very comfortable home size for a family of 5. She's actually building a perfect size home. The most important thing is the layout and storage features as that can make very small homes feel better!~~
