Is 15 old enough (mature enough) to fly alone without the assistance of an airline employee or parent? My cousin will be flying on a two step trip all by her self. She is only 15, what do you think?

  1. Kids are considered as "minor" from 8 yo to 12 yo. from 12 and one day old, they are considered as "adults" for all purposes (fare and parental company).

A 15 yo girl doen't need company to fly.

  2. definitely, my sister flew by herself when she was 9, the airport takes good care of underage flyer's

  3. i am 13 and will be flying by myself in a couple of weeks.

  4. yes, she can totally do it. even though she's still a teenager when it comes to stuff like this she'll be serious about it. no major worry there!

  5. Yes. As long as she stays alert and knows what to do in immigration checkings, where to go, gate number, stuff like that. Keep her well-informed of those. Oh, remind her to be alert of her passport too. That's the most important thing if you'd travel.

I think the whole thing's simple, what makes it complicated though is that you should hurry up and a lot of things fly into your head. Make her a list of airport procedures and what-to-do, e.g. putting her jacket, shoes, and stuff in a tray and on the conveyor belt for scanning.

    Good luck on the trip.

  6. yes, if she has proved herself to be mature enough. 2 step flights are hard on any adult and she needs to be 110% sure she knows exactly what shes doing.

  7. Absolutely... unless she is a very immature individual.  Not all 15 year olds (or 5 year olds or 50 year olds) are the same.  I have a 50+ year old aunt who could never fly by herself, and I have an 11 year old niece who does all the time.

  8. Absolutely! It will be an adventure!

  9. yeah, my cousin was only 12 and he had to fly from the us all the way to japan alone for a camp thing :)

    (they're rich lol)

  10. Yes, she is old enough

  11. My brother flew by himself when he was about seven. It was a really short trip, but he still did fine. I'm sure your cousin will be fine. She's over twice his age. The worst case scenario is that she'll just get a little nervous. But if she says she's okay with it, she probably is.

  12. Pretty much ALL airlines will allow you to fly but because you're under 16 you will need to pay for an "Unaccompanied Minor" service where you get escorted on and off the plane and a parent has to sign you in and out at your destination.

    Vote me as best please

  13. yea as long as she knw the drill. check in your bags, go through security (passport if your going international & an explanation for why your traveling alone ONLY if you're traveling international), then get to the gate, wait a long time on the plane, get off, get your bags and go where u need 2 go

  14. w/o a parent, yes, but b/c she is a minor they will have an airline emplyee w/ her

  15. Yes it is.  And  by the sounds of it, it is high time (!) she was allowed to do something independently!

  16. Yes, I've seen younger fly. You'll be perfectly fine.

  17. I think that is plenty old enough!  My daughter flew younger than that by herself and didn't have any problems at all!!

  18. Yeah, thats old enough. My friend flies to Arizona alone very often to see family, and hes only fourteen, and hes been doing so for years

  19. Yeah.  When I was 15, I flew with only my sister who was 14.  As long as it's not her first time flying ever, I think she is old enough.

  20. Yes, in jetBlue you are an unaccompanied minor up to age 16.

  21. Yes, most likely. I've flown alone at 15. It does depend, though, on whether she's traveled in an airport before and how many times she has. It'll be easier if she has only carry-on baggage, too. Just make sure she knows how to follow the airport signs between terminals. If she needs help, there's always employees to ask.

  22. it depends on the airline.  i flew alone a lot as a child.  and had to get the required assitance until i was 16.  but it depends on the airline.

if the plane is delayed (like most of them are now) to the point where she has to stay overnight, the airline cannot legally give her a hotel room like the other passengers.  (i've been put in a hotel twice)

but i  personally think 15 is mature enough.

  23. as long as she knows everything she need to, and is sensible and responsible then yes!!

  24. no you have to be 18 for that but at like 6 you can go and sit up front with somebody eles

  25. to be honest i would say 16

  26. she is old enough

  27. Yeah. You can. I think. Someone will probably check up on you a few times though.

  28. yes she'll be fine. I started travelling alone at 14

  29. It definitely is! The minimum solo flying age is 5. So your cousin is well over that age!

  30. yer but it would be advisable just to let the airline know that she is alone.

  31. ya you can fly alone when you are like 10. because ive done i be4.
