In my new school they have a class for learning to play guitar and I was wondering if maybe learning to play at 15 was too late or do you still think i'll be able to be good at it?

Any advice for guitar playing??

  1. You are not too late

This is the web's most popular guitar learning program

    Good Luck

  2. 15 is not too late.  In fact if you were much younger you wouldn't have the strength in your fingers.

Advice.  It's hard at first but stick with it.  I'm not really a teacher but I've showed a few people a few things and beginners always tell me 'I can't play this, my hands aren't strong enough' or 'my fingers don't work right' but it all comes with practice.  If you don't practice you'll never be any good.

Also take the time to learn the basics.  You'll build on them later.  Rock music is actually one of the easiest kinds of music to play.

Guitars.  When you have a couple of hours to kill, try looking at guitar listings on EBay.  I never realized there was such a range and variety, from guitars too cheap and crappy even to learn on to real works of art that cost more than my car.

Funny but true story.  I have always admired Martin guitars, acoustic steel-string guitars that have become classics.  I saw some beautiful antique Martins from the 1910s and 1920s, and I got to wondering just how high they go.  So I did a search for 'Martin', sorted by price to find the most expensive Martin.  And you know what I found?  The most expensive Martin is an Aston Martin.  8^D

  3. I'm 36 and a few months into learning guitar for the first time.  I like to think I am picking it up pretty well.

    Advice:

Don't spend your time learning bits of and intros to songs you like.  Spend your time properly learning to play.

Start learning to read music.  Well written tabs are a good alternative to regular notation, but it will help you understand what you are learning.

Listen to what you are playing.  Learn with your ears, not just your eyes and fingers.

Get a decent guitar to learn with.  A cheap guitar will just make it harder.  You should be able to find a decent used guitar for around $200-300.  If you are planning on taking this seriously, it is not that much of an investment - your parents will hopefully understand that.

Go slow... don't expect to be playing songs in the first week... or, month even.  It takes time.  But, you will be rewarded along the way.

    Good luck!

  4. No not really but I have seen a  8 year old who could put most 22 year olds playing guitar for like 13 years so. But I am 13 and play so not much of a age diffrence you should be able to learn and play pretty could h**l I could be talking to next Eddie Van Halen right now so just pracitce!

  5. Of course not, I picked up my 1st guitar at 32 and am teaching myself..have fun fella, go for it.

  6. Its never to late to learn guitar

  7. You must be kidding! At the age of 15 you're mature enough to tackle the job of enduring pained fingertips with the goal of learning to play the guitar.

You know you won't become an instant guitarist within a week's time and you also know that it takes effort and practice to succeed at it.

If possible, hire an instructor at your local community college or music store. You could learn bad habits in forming chords if you attempt to teach yourself.

I learned at age 16, and my school time permitted much time for practice.

  8. I'm 23 and I got my 1st guitar not too long ago. Getting ready to start my lessons next month. Does that answer your question?
