I took the SAT reasoning test for the first time, but just to get a feel of how the SAT is like. I know 1557 isn't a good score, but i took it without studying at all, and i am just a tenth grader. Is that a good score; being that i didn't study, am a tenth grader, and did not use a calculator?

  1. why are all of you saying that 1557 is a really good score? it isn't. it's about average. Not bad but not good either. (scoring is out of 2400 now, not 1600)

  2. "Good" is a very relative word. It really depends on who you're comparing your SAT with. For example, let's say you hypothetically got a 2000 on the new SAT. While this score would put you above the 90th percentile and would be considered excellent at most public colleges and universities (where you would probably have scored higher than more than 75% of admitted students), a 2000 would be considered well below average (worse than more than 75% of admitted students) at America's most selective institutions (Harvard, Princeton, MIT, etc.).

Even for a sophomore this is an average score- but it can definetly go up. I raised my score 380 points from sophomore year to the end of junior year with study, and you have even more potential for growth than I did because chances are you're just making simple, easy to correct mistakes or you didn't know the format well enough.

Next time, though, bring a graphing calculator or at least a basic four functioner if you can!

If you need tips, just add an edit or email me. Good luck!

  3. It's funny that you asked that, now if you were so smart to actually make a1557 you wouldn't be here asking that question now would you?  I would think you already knew the answer before you asked it, but hey Im just some guy here answering your question.  What do I know?

  4. yeah that's realy good , choose best answer

  5. a 1557 is an impossible score to get. I think you added your essay grade in or the multiple choice grade. The SAT is rounded to the nearest 10, therefor your total must end in a zero.  Add up your critical reading, Math, and Writing grade, do NOT include the essay or the MC grade, those have already been factored into your writing score. If you don't get how I explained it you can just add in your details what your scores were on each section and I'd gladly add it up for you.

    best of luck

  6. Seeing as you took the reformated SAT (based on a 2400 scale instead of 1600 like it used to be) your score isn't too bad. With another opportunity approaching to take it again, I'd try my hardest to nail the section that you did poorest on, say math.

I got a 2060 on the SAT, but honestly, once you're in college, it means nothing.

  7. Your SAT score is above the average score of about 1500. You can increase your score if you study with a book. I recommend Princeton Review and Tutorfox new SAT guide, http://www.tutorfox.com/satguide.html

With both books I improved my score from 1660 to 2120 in only 2 months of summer. Good luck, and let me know if you need any more help.

  8. A lot better than what I got,and I'm not telling!

  9. its an average score, not great. How do you get 1557 btw? it only goes by 10's

  10. ya thats good=] when i was a senior i made a 1975 but of course that was after two more years of study than you. also, you learn the most your last two years of high school, so don't be discouraged! you should go through and take the practice tests for the SAT and they will help you so much!

    good luck!

  11. you know d**n well that's an excellent score.  you could get a free ride to harvard NOW.  --quit bragging.
