We just bought a house and it will be 3 months until it is built. Our last house was only 844sq. ft. ~a tiny little thing. We have an 8 1/2 month old daughter and we plan on having 2 more-over the next 5-10 years or so. This house is 3 bed. 2 bath. with an additional den(so it could be a 4th bed). I need the den for a playroom because I am getting liscensed for daycare. So can someone give me an idea of how big almost 1600 sq. ft...is? Do you think its enough. I can't help feeling nervous about it...I want to know that we won't run into the issue of not having enough room again...

  1. our house is 1586!!!! we have 4 bedrooms and 2 bath, and 4 kids. i feel it all depends on the lay out. for us it is ok but if the lay out was better it would seem bigger. and if you keep the furniture and unnecessary stuff down you should be ok. good luck

  2. You'll find out in 3 months.

  3. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm betting you'll run into the issue of not having enough room again -- especially if you're planning to run a day care.  1,600 square feet is not as much space as you would think.  My wife and I have a ranch that is 1,454 square feet, 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath.  The largest bedroom is 12 feet by 14 feet (which is not very big) and the smallest bedroom we use as a den -- it wouldn't be useful for anything else except a baby's room because it's so small.  The kitchen is a decent size, the living/dining area is a decent size, and our bathrooms are smallish.  It's OK for us since it's just the two of us, but even having one house guest makes the house seem a little too crowded.  If you're planning on having two more children over the next 5-10 years I'd say be prepared to move if and when the young'ens come along...
