Is there a law that keeps children from working alot of hours? We are trying to get our daughter a second job so she could pay for rent and groceries. Groceries are getting expensive and I only get so much from the state. I didnt want to break any laws.

  1. i was working full time when i was 16, and it was a lot of pressure, i couldnt keep my grades up. But have you considered working a second job?

  2. Wow.  I feel really sorry for your daughter.

Laws are put into place to protect children from being farmed out as slave labor just the way you are attempting to farm your daughter out.

There is a reason it is illegal - it is not in the best interest of your child.  But somehow I don’t think that matters to you.  You don’t want to break any laws yet you think having her work under the table to make money the law doesn’t know about is acceptable???  Disgusting.

And By the way - I had Lupus and was bedridden and I still managed to run a small eBay business from by bedside table.  The only assistance I needed was to get my husband to run packages to the post box for me - even if he didn’t the postman would have taken them each day.

Your disability is no excuse for using your children in such a deplorable disgusting way.

And "she dont want to go to school anyhow."  You just gave the perfect example for why she SHOULD go to school!

  3. 15 - 16 Years Old

School Days. Not more than 2 hours a day. The 2 hours is either 1 hour before school and 1 hour after school or 2 hours after school

    Saturdays - 8 hours a day

    Sundays - 2 hours a day

Total hours must not exceed 12 hours in any week

School holidays - 8 hours a day (except Sundays).

Total hours must not exceed 35 hours in any week

    Important Notes:

Children may only work between 7am and 7pm, irrespective of the day of the week or school holidays

A child must have a one hour break after four hours work. Any additional breaks are at the discretion of the employer.

  4. no because my sister [[who is 16]]

    has 2 jobs

    &&

my friend is 14 and has 2 jobs

    =]

  5. depends on the job, but maybe with her first job maybe she could work more hours or get a different job that pays more

  6. i had 3 jobs at 14

  7. Gosh that is young for two jobs plus school....  (I assume) You can't get another job? or do you have a disability or something preventing you from working as well? It's not a 16 years old's job to care for a parent... if shes not going to school then it seems like that issue needs to be addressed before working two jobs.

  8. THats pathetic.  Suck it up and get a job instead of trying to make your child support you.

Most of us have problems sitting and standing for long amounts of time, but you are the only one I see low enough to make your child support you.

  9. It isn't a matter of laws, it is a matter of education. If she doesn't finish school she'll be where you are, paycheck to paycheck. I know that isn't what you want. Are you sure there isn't another way?

Edit: It is your job to keep her in school. I don't want to criticize you or your motives. But I do want to ask if you've considered two things:

The first is whether or not you have thought about the complete power she will have if she is supporting you?

A child who takes over the role of parent has no reason to continue to respect the real parent.

The second is what you plan to do when she begins to resent you and leaves without looking back?

Of course she will. Her life, for all practical purposes ends when she drops out of school. Her earning power will forever be limited. The type of man she will attract will be other high school dropouts. Chances are she will live the life you are living now for the rest of hers and repeat your every mistake.

  10. Hmm... do you really want to put that kind of pressure on your daughter at that age?

  11. I don't dare how disabled you are, you can find a ******* job.

Don't be so lazy that you have to force your poor kid to work for you. That's not their place.

I hope somebody takes your kids away and gives them to somebody who cares about them, and doesn't see them as a cash cow.

    You make me sick.

  12. One--you know it is in the best interest for your child to FINISH SCHOOL because if not, her chances for financial sucess (to get beyond working two jobs and still not being able to break even) is limited greatly.  If you need true suggestions, I will be glad to do my best to help you out.  I am a Bankruptcy /Credit counselor. with working history as a loan officer/student financial aid advisor.  I can possibly give you suggestions that will help propel the family in a more positive way with alternatives that will allow your child to finish that much needed schooling.  You wouldn't want her to be struggling as you are now in the future would you?

  13. i seriously hate this question. how dumb.

bring on the thumbs down. why cant you work? theres always a job that has you sitting, but getting up occasionally. i may not fully get it, but this was just my immediate response.

  14. there is a law that requires children to be in school.  At sixteen school can be time consuming without the stress of 2 jobs.  I would look up the laws that apply to working papers.  I believe that 16 year olds are only allowed 20-30 hour per week during the school year, including specified hours during the weekends.  During holiday and vacation its probably 40 hours with specified hours.

  15. yes, there is a law that her place of employment must abide too. They can not over work her because of child labor. If she is under 18 she can't work at her job after certain hour, depending on the curfew hour of your city. But if she is not in school, say summer vacation or dropping out, I can't see why she can't have two jobs
