I'm 16 years old and next week I am hoping to go to a soccer goalie camp in kelowna because there is nothing of the sort where I live, 3 hours away from where I live, the thing is that I will be staying in a hostel if I go. The hostel owner says 16 isn't too young and on the hostels website it seems to be a nice, safe, and friendly place, but my dad is hesitant to send me. he has never stayed in a hostel and is unsure of how it will be. I am mature for my age and don't swear, drink, or do anything of the sort, and I am a straight A student that is a part of a violence and abuse resistance program in the community as well as the student council. My dad has finally agreed to call my sister who is 33 now and is going tio talk to her about it because she has stayed in a hostel before, and she has also been 16. the thing is that for one, the hostels she had stayed in were in less than developed areas and she was a pretty rebelious teenager so I think that if she puts it together, she may not have been as responsible about the situation as I will be and may advise my dad not to let me go. I'll have a cell phone, so he could call anytime. what do you think about this. what was your hosteling stay like? would you let your daughter go? would you let me go if you were my dad?

  1. I would let you go as long as you know what your limits are and are responsible. Your dad might be more inclined to let a boy though than a girl simply because of safety pre-cautions. Also as long as you keep your cell phone with you at all times. Plus you sound like there's no worries about you, but I'm not sure what you being straight has to do with you being good?

  2. Umm didn't you see the movie Hostel? After seeing it, you wouldn't think twice about having someone you know stay at one...   :-/

  3. your father is RIGHT. listen to him. DONT GO.

  4. it is fine to stay in a hostel at 16 I stayed in one at 13 and I had 4 boys in my room you will probably get your own room and it will be fine. I had fun it is slightly expensive but this is what they are made for.

  5. I don't know about in all areas, but I know that around where I live you have to be 18 years old before you can legally get a hotel. like, if your parents paid for it and signed or whatever has to be done, then you could stay in it but you couldn't just walk in and ask for a room by yourself.

but even if it seems like a good area, I know that I wouldn't be comfortable staying there alone, I'm 17. but I'm also a fairly small girl, 5 foot tall and about 120 lbs. so it might be a little different if you are a guy and stuff. but still, i dunno. i don't think my parents would go for it.
