Is 160 over 100 a dangerously high blood pressure?

I went to the doctor (not my usual GP) yesterday feeling pretty stressed from work and found my BP was much higher than normal - 160 over 100. I know this is too high but is it dangerous? My plan is to take a week off work and then go back to my usual doctor at the end of the week to see what it is then. Should I be going back to the doctor tomorrow or am I safe to wait a week to see if it improves? I am 47 years old.

  1. high but not dangerously.. it is probably how frequent u have these numbers..maybe u shld get a personal bp monitor at home..

    Good Luck =)

  2. It is definitely too high and yes it is with in the danger zone. Call Your doctor and let him know .  He may want to see you sooner to at least medicate you  with a low dose water pill. You do not want it to go any high then that !

  3. blood pressure varies from person to person. what might be dangerous to one may be tolerable to another. best to see your doctor and discuss with him/her. waiting is not something anyone can advise you on because we dont know your health history, symptoms that accompany the high blood pressure or the health history of you family. stress, pain and many other things can cause blood pressure to rise, but its always better to be safe than sorry. good luck.

  4. Yes, that is considered dangerously high.  Anything over 140/90 generally requires medication.
