  1. ISO 1600 on a digital camera or film is good for dim light situations, but it's noisy. In digital, you see light specs and in film you see grain. Try using a faster shutter speed like 125 or higher to minimize blur.

  2. 1600 iso will be very bright in some circumstances. try getting a camera with adjustable isos and/or auto iso.

  3. ISO 1600 is fine...on a dSLR camera. But, on most compact digital cameras, expect ISO 1600 images to be extremely noisy and/or completely unusable. Making it next to useless.

Many compact camera manufacturers use this high ISO 1600 (and higher) as a marketing gimmick...so make sure you first see ISO test results of any camera you are considering purchasing...

  4. 1600 ISO is fine, but if you want a camera witha fast shutter speed then you should be looking at shutter speeds. ISO sets the light sensitivity of the camera's image sensor. Higher ISO's can increase sensitivity, meaning higher shutter speeds can be used, but shutter speed is still your priority. Most higher end consumer cameras have adjustable shutter speeds, as do all DSLR cameras. More important than ISO is your light source. Adequately light your subject and you won't have to worry about ISO settings because you can use faster shutter speeds with good light. Higher ISO's yield graininess anyway.
