Okay, so this is my schedule

Chemistry200, 5 units, also has a lab

Civil Engineering100, 1 unit

Math, 3

psychology/english, total of 8... i was put in remediation =(

anyways, that's a total of 17 units. i was wondering if that was too much, or overwhelming for me, I'm not the type who studies all day, i want to have some fun. i was thinking about dropping chem200 and taking it over summer so i would only have 12 units for my first semester, is that a good idea, or should i stick with what i already have? i know everyone is asking this, but i really don't know what to do, and school starts on Tuesday... i don't wanna overwork myself to exhaustion.... any ideas? thnx in advance.

  1. in your case it is ok. but for me it is so small. compare to me i have 26 to 28 units per semester. to finish my academics and take a job earlier.

my advice is 17 units is ok. you can have your enjoyments and study within the week with that kind of subjects. just study well, there is no bad i any schedule. unless it will frustrate you.

  2. 17 is alot. Just do the course in the summer

  3. 17 is alot especially since it's your first semester.  Chemistry, engineering, and math take up alot of your time.  You have homeworks, lab reports, quizzes.  English you'll have papers.  So I think dropping one of those is probably a good idea.

They say for every credit hour you take, you should be studying that many hours a week for that class.  That's overwhelming.  Good luck on your choice.  There's always summer session and winter session.

  4. Looking at your schedule it seems as though your major is engineering? Engineering as a major does require a lot of work. With that said 17 credits is average load though on the high side of average but not overly burdensome. If your major is engineering then dropping chemistry is a very bad idea due to the fact chemistry is needed for many engineering courses. I would recommend dropping psychology if you were to drop a course.

There are three reasons why I say psychology. First psychology is a lot of reading and when put with English then you may be overly burden with reading especially if the English course requires reading literature too. Also by removing psychology it balance your schedule out more with the type of work that you would be doing. Final reason psychology is either an elective or required course for graduation. Unlike English you can substitute another course (e.g. sociology or anthropology)  for it at a later date whereas your other courses will help you with your major and help you progress.
