Is $1750 for a bassford Oxford pool table a good deal?

A local retailer is selling a Bassford oxford pool table for $1750 delivered and set up and I am curious is anyone has ever even heard of Bassford? They have a website but I cannot seem to find anyone else selling them to compare to.

I really do not want the table for a month so I would prefer not to buy now but if it is actually there cost as they claim I may jump on it.

Thanks!

  1. shop around for other retailers. You could get a good table for about the same amount, and you know you won't be gettin ripped off. Try Connally Billiards, or Brunswick. I really like those tables

  2. The Oxford is elegantly simple, virtually unadorned, and presented in a deep, rich Bassford Merlot finish. And it is a design that will calmly blend with the most formal,

    traditional or eclectic décor

Their pitch not mine but for the money it is worth it ,just a good no frills table

  3. I agree with lori.

I grew up in a pool hall. I have never heard of Bassford either, nor have I seen any tournaments played on them. This is not to say they aren't nice tables but I suspect right now as tight as the economy is I'd offer 1500 as my BAFO and see if they will take it.

IF he even considers it he's lying about the 'at cost' because they aren't going below that.

It sounds more to me that you are even considering this only for the cost. My exp in life when I buy something that if my first reason to buy it is cost.. I'm getting a piece of junk.

lori has made all the points I'd make. I def agree with spending a tad more and getting a table made by a respected name in pool tables. In the long run it's worth the extra money. Besides if you sell it a named manuf will sell way faster.

Here's a company that has an ad on Craigslist. Why don't you give them a call and get ask them about this 'deal'

  4. Their claim that they are selling you the table at THEIR cost, sets off red flags in my head. They have to make a profit or they would not be in business. The salesman is not being completely honest with you.

Personally speaking, I would not pay 1700.00 for a table that I know little or nothing about.  The salesman may very well be banking on your lack of knowledge about pool tables (no pun intended).

I looked at the table online that you are referring to. Personally (for my own taste in quality) Bassford is not for me, but I'm not the one buying the table. I can only give you suggestions to help you choose what it right for you.

If you're willing to pay 2000.00 for a pool table, you may feel more confident with a brand that is "tried and true" such as Brunswick and Olhausen, to name a few.

Call several pool table retailers in your area. Ask retailers how THEY rate Bassford tables to other brands. Of course, a Bassford dealer, is going to sell you on Bassford. Talk to different salesmen about your interest in purchasing a quality pool table. Tell him about the offer that the Bassford distributor made to you -----get some feedback and tips from several retailers. See what they have to say, offer, or suggest.

It is not necessary to buy a pool table from a retailer, when you're only wanting information. A good retailer will be happy to advise you with no pressure to buy from him.

I think you can do better in the quality department; it depends on what features are important and appealing to you. Take your time when shopping for anything that should last a few lifetimes. Making an investment in something that will be in your family for generations to come, is an important decision that takes research (which you are doing by asking this question), *knowledge, and patience. Ask in other places too.

Don't let anyone pressure you! If you are being pressured to "buy it now" or "this deal will not last" .....I would say,  "no thank you." and search elsewhere.

*If you know nothing about pool tables, prices, and quality, get several opinions and tips from people who are very well seasoned and experienced in their knowledge of pool tables and prices.

I've never heard of Bassford. Only when I researched your question, I learned something about Bassford tables. The lifetime warranty sounds appealing --- just understand the warranty clearly before you buy.

I'm excited for you. Having your own pool table is really quite special.
