  1. yes. they should be mature enough to drink. 21 is too old.

  2. The legal age here in Canada is 19.

I'm 20 minutes away from Quebec and legal age is 18....

I consider myself responsible at that age - I have always called in my parents, make sure I stay with my group of friends, never accept drinks from strangers, and never drink and drive.

My mom use to come pick me up at the bar sometimes - at 3 am at 18 in Quebec. Im 24 now, and if my child wants to go out at age 18 and have fun I would do the same. Make sure where they are, who are they with, drop them off, and pick them up...

  3. well, i don't think that by lowering the legal drinking age it will increase DUI.

underage drinking occurs whether its legal or not.  some ingnorant people will drive drunk whether they are 18 or 28 or 56.

i would vote on age 18. thats when they are considered an adult.

  4. whether your child is 18 or 16 they will find a way to drink. not everyone is bright enough to stay off the road when drinking.

  5. i know i have always told myself that i would love my child to be ab;e to tell me if he was doing those kinds of things....i live in canada so the legal age to buy or go to the barsin 19!!! so 18 doesnt seem to be a bad age for me now that i see kids at the age of 16 starting to drink.....but if he went to jail for a dui then i dont think i would agree....there alot of ppl or familes that have lost kids and or family members from ppl driving under the influnence!!!!!! so i dont agree with that....if he were to be out drinking and NOT driving i would let it pass but if he got caught once before i dont know if i would be able to trust he wouldnt do it again!!!

  6. I think 18 is old enough to drink, even though US law currently says differently.  Kids under 21 (and under 18 for that matter) drink in a completely irresponsible way as it is.  Focus should be on teaching responsible drinking instead of having a ridiculously high drinking age.

And I wouldn't change my vote depending on those situations- I wouldn't let my personal experience get in the way of how I see things as a whole.

  7. okay

im 15 and kind of straightedge

i get teased a lot but i dont really care...

im the only person in my little circle of friends that dosent drink...and even if i did drink i would wait till i was 21 because thats the law but my mom dosent want me feeling smothered and getting into trouble so she said if i ever wanted to do anything to tell her first but im just the kind of person that would...

so i dont know...i would freak if that happened to me...

  8. Really it depends on the individual person and how responsible they are and what kind of personal choices they are going to make. Unfortunately, I don't see how any kind of law will ever be able to accommodate this, so the important thing is to educate and inform people so they will be more likely to make responsible decisions while drinking.

  9. No, in the US (where I live) the legal drinking age is 21. I don't have an issue with drinking as long as it is done responsibly and safely. I'm 17 and in my family we are allowed a small glass of wine at Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter dinners. I went to Greece in April and brought back some ouzo for my mom and dad and they let me have some. I hated the taste of it...

"Drinking" generally means repeated. More than a glass of wine at Christmas or the little taste of ouzo I had is repeated, which is unacceptable underage. I despise those who binge drink and drink just to get drunk.

If my kid was in jail for DUI he could rot there. He did the crime, he'll do the time.

  10. no

  11. I am not going to vote, because honestly i have mixed opinions on this matter.  One an 18 year old is going to drink regardless if it is legal or not.  Ask someone who is 54 or older, how things were when the drinking age was 18.  People were more responsible back then...which leads me to think...that parents need to teach their children responsibility.  Do I want my child to be able to drink right out of high school...some may still be in high school....no I don't but if it came to that, I would make sure my sons' know to call me if they have been drinking, do not get behind the wheel, and do not get into a car with a drunk driver.

  12. If we were talking about law changes, I would require, say, a high-school diploma to drink, instead of an age limit.

Responsible drinking has more to do with maturity than age, after all.  I know plenty of 21-year-olds (and far over) who abuse alcohol, and plenty of minors who wouldn't have any problem with the responsibility if they were given it.

  13. you can get hit by a drunk driver of any age... im not saying that its right but just because somebody is 18 has nothing to do with how they can handle their alcohol. that depends on the person

  14. I personally think it is. Honestly anyone can get behind the wheel drunk. at 18 you're legally responsible for your actions just like any other age after that big birthday. It's not like 18 year olds dont drink anyway and i think if you can sign up for the army to have a gun put in your hands and shipped out to war or get married or have to do things on your own if your parents found you a burden and dont want to help you out at all then why shouldnt you be able to drink?

  15. I do think the legal age should be lowered to 18.  An 18 year old can drive, join the military, vote, smoke, and is considered to be an adult.  18 being the legal drinking age isn't going to increase the number of DUIs and it isn't going to increase the number of alcoholics.

Drunk drivers come in all ages, not just 18-21, and I would not bail my kids out of jail for drinking and driving.

  16. it's old enough but don't let him go out and do it at parties let him have a small party at your house so he doesn't get busted

  17. If it was my child and they were drinking at 18 or so, I would probably have a conniption fit. I wouldn't get my child out of jail for DUI, I would make them face those consequences on their own. If my child had been killed by a drunk or DUI driver, I would be the worlds best adversary for underage drinking.   I love my children, and my friends children, and there isn't ANY AGE that is old enough to drive under the influence!

  18. Yes it is...If an 18 yr old can vote and die for his/her country they should be able to drink, period.

  19. If your kid is in high school no because they have friends in high school. If they are out of high school I think it is old enough. At 18 you can vote, smoke, get into clubs, and serve our country. Not to mention that is the age you are "officially" an adult. As long as you let your kid know it is ok as long as they dont drive and that if they ever need a ride you can come get them. Also you can let them know that you would prefer for them to drink at your home if they are going to do it, that way you know they are safe. If they were just bailed out of jail for DUI and live with you and are not independent then they should be punished. Besides if they know they can drink if they want to they might be more likely to choose not to drink.

  20. at no age is it ok to drink and drive.

  21. I don't support drinking and driving, I don't want my son/daughter to be an alcoholic, that being said I still think its ok.  In fact I believe that this stupid not drinking until you are 21 creates an environment where kids don't learn how to control their  drinking.  There is nothing in the world wrong with responsible drinking.

    AND

alcoholism needs to be redefined.  Just because you have a few drinks does not make you an alcoholic.

  22. No.  I beleive 18 year olds are still not adult thinking enough to handle it.  Actually some 21 year olds should not drink either.  You have to use your head when you drink and not try to show off.  drinking maks people awfully brave and kids think they are indistructible anyway.

  23. i think 18 is old enough but the dui is a scary thing im going to with my boys get them drunk at home with me to show them that you cant control things while your drunk to scare them so they dont drink and drve hopefully that will work

  24. If my child got hit I think its more likely to be by someone older. If I picked my child up for a DUI I would be kicking myself for not raising them properly. I think 18 is old enough to drink and would cut down on alot of dangerous binge drinking activities in college. I also think that there should be a major crack down drinking in high school and that we should be teaching our kids to drink responsibly if they are going to be drinking when they are older.

  25. Sure- if you dont mind them getting pregnant or wrapping themselfs around a phone poll.

  26. NO AGE is old enough to drink. I don't see why anyone does it. Yt's bad for your body, makes you act a fool, and lead to your death or you causing the death of others. If you can't have fun without drinking, you're obviously a very boring person. I've seen Fetal Alcohol Syndrome babies, people of all ages killed by drunk drivers, and sometimes, people get killed by drunk drivers, the drunk lives, they go to jail for a short time, then are out to kill again. Drunk driving should be counted as 1000 acts of attempted murder.

  27. yes, in canada you can drink at 18 in most provinces, in the others its 19

  28. NO 18 is not!  The legal age is 21 and it is place for a reason.

  29. I think that 18 years old is enough to drink. If they are old enough to sign up to go into the military to risk their lives I think they should be able to drink a beer. Actually statisically prooven fact that in other countries where the drinking age is lowered, the drunk driving rate is lower then America. IE the UK.

If you got your kid out of jail for DUI then that is something that you need to raise your child on from right and wrong.  My mother always said to me that if you are ever too drunk to drive or if you had some drinks and are questioning yourself please call her...she said "no matter where you are. i would rather come and get you or you stay there then to pick up up at the police station or at the hospital injured."

If my hcild has been killed by a DUI driver...the age of the person doesn't matter.  It could have been a 45 year old alcoholic behind the wheel that killed your child. My vote is staying the same.
