for a while now i have been waiting on my parents to buy me a car and ive been relativately patient but it is getting to a point where i am in need of a car (getting to work, school, going out, running errands, etc.). they wont even let me get my drivers license because they claim the state makes them add me on to their insurance policy at that point. i think thats a load of bullshi* lol. but anyway its getting very hard relying on someone else to get me to where i need to go. i believe i am a responsible person and i dont understand what is stopping them. ill be moving out for my second year of college soon and really thinking of buying a car myself even though they are opposed to it.......what should i do?

  1. You are over 18 and it is your money of course it is their house, but no there is no age limit for being to old to not have a license

  2. Don't expect your parents to buy a car for you - do it yourself.  First, go get your driver's license - you are over 18 so you don't need parental consent, just a vehicle to take the test in.  Your parents are only partially right - if you don't have your own vehicle and you have to drive theirs, they would have to insure you on their policy.  If you have your own car, you have to insure yourself to drive that vehicle.

Now...start studying for the driver's exam and save up some money!

Oh...and on a side note - my mom didn't get a driver's license until she was in her 30's.  Talk about inconvenient.  And one of my best friends who is 43 now only got hers about 14 years ago.  she had always relied on friends, walking, and cabs to get where she needed to go - even work and grocery shopping.  I convinced her to get licensed because I was getting tired of chauffeuring her around.

I also waited until I was 18 to get my license.  I was a little bit afraid to drive when I was 16...plus I had a motto at the time..."Born to be chauffeured". Ha!

  3. it's not too old at all.

i was 18 when i got my permit then my license.

    and i still don't have a car(that's running anyway).

  4. it shouldn't matter if you are over 18, you are your own person at 18

  5. You sound like you are a responsible person and are capable of getting a car.  Your parents should help you on this and be grateful to have a child like you.
