  1. 19 is a good time.  17 is a great time.

  2. It depends how much you have trained and what your base is.  Running a 19 min 5k is a little over a 6 minute mile base throughout the race.  If you are trying to run it under 17 you will need to run each mile around a 5:25 split for your miles.  My number one recommendation is get moderatly faster as the race progresses and that you have energy for the final push.  The last thing you want to do is burn out after the first mile.  Hope that helps.

  3. 19 minutes is not slow in comparison to many runners.  Enter a local road race, and you'd probably find yourself in the top 10.  However, for high school cross country, the winning times will be even faster than 16:00.  So, a good way to reach your goal would be to increase your base mileage.  This will increase your endurance and prepare you for anaerobic workouts.  Anaerobic (sprinting) workouts will help you get faster for hills and final pushes at the end of races.  Look in some running books or talk to your coach about how much base mileage you should do and what kind of speed workouts are right for you.

  4. well depends on if you just started or not. For a guy 17-18 is usually normal kinda fast. i run my best 5k in 19:35. 17 min is a very good goal.
