Question:

Is 20 MPH above speed limit a felony?

as in, is it a federal offense? jail, etc. ? Some of my friends have gotten a ticket for 20+ mph but they didnt go to jail. But i always thought it was a felony? true/false?

Sometimes it depends on states, but mostly no.  You do however, get points on your license, and if the points exceed (I think 8-10) within a month or two time, then you get your license revoked/suspended for a while.  You also have to pay the speeding ticket, but other then that, its nothing more then a misdemeanor traffic infraction. :)

    Now, it's a felony if you don't pay those tickets off, and then you can be arrested and be put in jail.

  3. A traffic violation is not a federal offense. Depending on the states, some states have manditory arrest for 20+ MPH over posted limits. Often times it is just a larger ticket, manditory court appearance, and watching your insurance sky rocket.  

  4. Its not even a criminal offense. Its a traffic offense. No, it's not a felony.
