  1. Not sure what state you are in as it can vary.  (this is for Qld)

Example of calculation of rate for carpenter as at 1 October 2007:

The construction rate is made up of:

    Wage   (5.1.2)

    $622.30

    Industry allowance   (5.6.24)

    $23.50

    Tool allowance  (5.6.38)

    $24.70

    Sub-total -  $670.50

    Follow the job loading  (5.1.5)

    x 52/50.4

    equals -  $691.79

    Plus special allowance  (5.1.4)

    $7.70

    equals -  $699.49

    Divided by 38 -   $18.41 an hour

This is based on the award wage, but most people pay above it anyhow.

  2. Depending how old he is. You wouldn't expect a qualified carpenter to get less than $30 an hour after the age of say 23.

  3. They were getting more than that 15 years ago when I was builder's labourer on $15 an hour.   But if he just out of his time that might not be too bad.
