I'm 20 years old and was interested in playing volleyball. I played basketball and swam in high school and want to try something new. Everyone I know tells me i have the body type and athleticism to play (I'm 6'6" or 6'7" and about 200 pounds). I also have about a 28 or 29 inch vertical last time I checked. I heard most men that play have close to a 40 inch vertical. Does this matter? I want to get in a local league to learn how to play and eventually move up. I'm not really familiar with the different leagues and what not but a friend of mine who plays said that she thinks I could play in the A leagues once I learn the game. How would I go about doing this?

  1. LOL! well ya...

  2. NNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO

  3. You're not too old to start playing. Go to one of the league games, watch, and then inquire about joining after the game. Maybe you and friend can practice a little also to sharpen your game.

  4. just as long as everything is working why not.

  5. go ahead but you're going to have to train and practice alot good luck!!

  6. I started when I was 14 and became really good at it....then i stopped at around 24 and just got back into the game recently...I am now 35....as long as your in shape and willing to learn you should be fine....as for the 40 inch vertical...don't worry....most teams don't have guys your height. So you should be fine.

    Good luck

  7. no but you hsve to be in very good shape otherwise you could hurt your self

  8. No!

  9. its never 2 l8te 2 play volleyball its not a difficlt sport 2 play unless u have any bad ingeries

  10. 20...wow...that's old.  You had better take it easy so you don't break a hip or something.

  11. Dude you would be perfect for playing v-ball!! youre sooooo tall! If you can jump really high you would be the perfect blocker! And an excelent attacker!  Just try to get into a club. i think that they will be thankfull!   :  )

  12. No! Definitely not. My coach started playing when he was 19 and he's like amazing. So no its not too late. I really dont think your vertical matters as much if your super tall.

Just check around and see if there are any local indoor or beach teams.

I would say talk to  your friend and see if she can get you started.

AND ITS NOT g*y FOR GUYS TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL.

  13. bigbadbob113 has a great answer.  20 in not too old to start learning.

Go to the league and watch the first time or two.  See if you think you can compete.  See if they have open play where you can go to practice.

USA Volleyball has a men's 75 and over division.  You have 55 years to perfect your game before you can start playing in that division.
