I'm turning 21 soon, is that too old to start acting? I have no previous experience, except a couple of courses in drama. Although, in my opinion theatre and film acting are quite different. I know that a lot of successful actresses started when they were like 14.

  1. Depends on what sort of acting you want to do. If you wouldn't mind concentrating on supporting character roles you might, and I emphasise "might" be able to eke out a living by taking anything you can get, stage or film or television commercials or radio voice acting or even summer stock. Don't assume you'll become rich. In almost any branch of the arts, ten per cent of people involved earn ninety per cent of the available money which doesn't leave much for the rest of the practicioners to divide. You might also want to learn a skill to support yourself during most of the year. You had better be in love with the craft of acting and not the prospect of fame and riches, since the odds against the latter combination are too high to ignore.

  2. no you could start at any age. There is no age limit. You could be 73 and suddenly become a big movie star!!! Lol.

  3. Most actresses were not child stars, and started the same age that you are. But it would help to be part of some school plays. Also have a good personality.

  4. You are never too old to get into acting. Yes, it will take hard work and dedication, but that is what the film and theatre industries are like. I'd suggest taking a few acting lessons and then start by going to a few open casting calls.

Never be afraid to ask what casting directors think you could improve on either. They are very helpful, and if they like you, you may get a call back and then the part.

  5. never too late to fulfil your dream
