I was thinking about buying a boat and found one thats cheap. It has a cuddy cabin and a 185 horse power 4 cyl engine. the boat size is 20 foot. The owner said it goes 25-30, would that be fast enough to have fun tubing or would it be to slow?

  1. 25-30 is plenty fast enough, however, a 20 foot cuddy with a 185 four cylinder is gonna have a hard time getting up to 25. Take a test ride first and take along a hand held GPS to check the speed. I'd bet it's 20 tops.

  2. ever hit the water at 25-30 mph? can hurt like he!! and cause serious injury...

best answer I've seen hear is from TrueNorth...go with!

  3. Yeah, 25 is plenty fast.  You would be surprised at how fast that is when your the one on the tube.  However, do you really want to run around the lake wide open all day?  Running wide open is no problem for a while, but to just cruise around with the throttle open all day will wear things out pretty quickly.  I would try to take the boat for a spin first before you buy.

  4. 20-30 is plenty! Probably too fast even.

But, On a boat that size and weight with a 4 cylinder engine, dragging an adult through the water, I would be very surprised if you get 25 miles an hour. It takes a lot of power to drag that much weight up on tp of the water. When you start, its just like trying to drag an anchor behind the boat.

  5. It should be.  25-30 on a tube is a lot faster then it sounds so be careful.

  6. It's the power from the get go>Not how fast it will go>Might be a dog trying to get it going pulling dead weight> Might have to change props for power??

  7. When I take people tubing I ask: "wild or mild?"

30 MPH would qualify as wild.

    Go easy on your tubers.

  8. Yeah thats plenty fast enough i would'nt want to go much faster
