Question:

Is 29 too old for college life?

So I'm a 29-year old graduate student and I feel funny about still being in school. Plus, I'm applying to medical school next year, so that means I still have a minimum of 5 more years to go.

The problem is... I'm wondering if I should stop feeling funny about still being in school. It's like I'm having a 1/3-life crisis or something and see myself as an old man.

Not that I feel too much out of place at school, but I just feel like I should be working instead of still being in school.

I'm in college for several reasons, mainly for an education, but I'd also like to meet a wife, and still experience some "college life" in the process.

I'm involved in several extracurricular clubs and mostly hang out with a younger crowd (19-22 year olds), but they never act weird or anything like I'm too old to hang out. I guess I'm just trying to have that last bit of fun before I have to really "get old".

Any sugestions? Or am I just being stupid for feeling old...

  1. I don't think it matters if you hang out with a younger crowd or whatever, but I think it's weird if a 29 year old goes to frat parties and college parties.

  2. Your never too old to go to college. The community college I went to had people of all ages there.

  3. you are never 2 old for collage and if you get out you will regretted for ever

  4. I'm getting my masters this year (28) and I feel old, so you're not alone.

The degree is worth it though, especially if you have fun while getting it

  5. College is fun.  I loved acting 20.  I did so myself until I was 35 and still do sometimes.  My guess is that the wife crowd is not impressed with the 30 year old partying bachelor, even though they think you are fun.  Girls that want a husband want someone that is fun but also settled and can support a family at around your age.  It is certainly not too  late to go to med school and you are in grad school, just hanging out with undergrads.  Keep your long term goals in mind and don't worry so much about finding the wife.   I still go out and party like a rockstar some times and I don't feel old at 39, but I know what you mean.  Being older doesn't mean you get boring.

  6. I had a classmate in medical school who was in his late 40s when he started.  He used to run a construction company and sold it to follow his dream of becoming a doctor.  If becoming a doctor is your dream, go for it.

Always try to have fun in life, regardless of how "old" you are.

  7. One uncle was 28 when he graduated college. Another was 27. I wouldn't say so. Besides, I know a guy who is 28 and hangs out with people younger than he is, including myself (Most of the people in the group's ages range from 18-22, some are 24).

By the way, I am practically 22 and still trying to figure what I want to do career-wise, but I am leaning towards accounting.

  8. don't feel bad for being older.  I'd feel stupid if I had a chance to go to med school and dropped out.  I knew a woman who was in her 80s and still took college classes.

  9. I don't think that's too old, as they say - you're never to old for school. It'd feel a tad old if I lived on campus though, other than that I don't think age limits schooling.

  10. No.  I am 32 and just started graduate school.  I also teach freshmen and some are much older than me.  Their ages range from 18-51.

  11. i have a neighbor who is 34 and just graduated college. she took like one class a year every year since she graduated high school.

    youre fine!

  12. No, you are not too old. I'm 29 and started grad school last month.  I'm enjoying it!!
