HSMP is a points- based system for assessing your edibility. It is self-scoring, (but they don't necessarily accept your opinion.) You must score at least 65 points to be considered, on the following bases:

    1)    EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Bachelors Degree, or equivalent:    15 points

    Masters Degree                                25 points

    PhD, or equiv.                                  30 points

    2)    WORK EXPERIENCE

    a)     Minimum 5 years graduate level( PhD, 3 years)                         25 points

    b)     Including 2 years senior or specialist work                                35 points

    c)     Minimun 10 years including 5 years senior or specialist work    50 points

    3)    PAST EARNINGS for the past 12 months. (For Nigeria)

    £3,500            25 points

    £8,750            35 points

    £21,875          50 points

    4)    ACHIEVEMENT IN YOUR FIELD

    a)    Significant achievement        15 points

    b)    Exceptional achievement       25 points

    5)    HSMP PRIORITY APPICANTS

Legally entitled to work as a medical practitioner (GP)        50 points

    6)    PARTNER'S ACHIEVEMENTS

Spouse, or unmarried partner who is accompanying you:

A degree, and work at degree level                                     10 points

YOU NEED TO SHOW THAT YOU CAN CONTINUE YOUR CAREER IN UK

It's difficult for such young people to have acquired this necessary high-powered experience.

The required earnings level are far too high for a country like Nigeria. There is an adjustment for less-developed countries, but it is not enough.

They say "senior" or "specialist" experience, but the emphasis seems to be on specialist, and of a technical nature.

If interested, I suggest you get very familiar with the application form, and the guidelines, with a view to make up for any deficiencies you might have, That is, treat this as a long-term venture.

At present there is a pretty long waiting period for HSMP.
