Question:

Is 30 too old to start an acting career? If not, how can I get into it (for film) with not much experience?

I'm going to school for PR (Public Relations), but I would also like to try acting. I always wanted to, but my parents told me all my life not to do it. But I guess I'm finally not letting what they told me get in the way, even if it's been this long. I've done skits at school, but that's about it. Is it too late? I also heard that it's harder for females to get into acting at 30 years old. I'm also asian too; and I know that asians are not represented very well in mainstream entertainment. But I'm told that I'm very expressive with myself and that I show it well physically (facial expressions and such). Plus, how do actors maintain their acting careers at the same time hold a steady job on the side? Thanks for any help.

  1. Danny Aielo was  36 when he started acting. He was 40 before he got a SAG card

  2. I disagree with gadfly.  Life is not a race, so there is no such thing as too late.  You're clearly keen to act so I don't think you should deny yourself the opportunity.  Having said that, don't go quitting your full time job just yet! Start auditioning for roles in community theatre, or extras roles in films and see what happens :)

  3. The vast majority of talented people who spend their whole lives trying to make it in acting don't. And you think you can come in because people you have an "expressive face" that you can make it.

Well honey, thats what all the waitresses and pole dancers and street walkers in hollywood told themselves too. I hope you like serving burgers and fries.

  4. I would go for it :)

The odds are against you, but if your willing to make some sacrifices, id say, follow ur dream.

You should take some classes and look up open calls (auditions) on www.actorsequity.com.

then you can get your actors equity card if you get cast and earn enough points. then you can do broadway.

sounds easy. but im sure it isnt...
