Is 'Antivirus XP 2008' virus it-self?

Well, we had 'avast antivirus' on our computer, but the time expired and we had to update it, but we didn't do it, we always forgot about that. And one time I went on some site and... This 'Antivirus XP 2008' came up. It changed automatic my wallpaper. And my internet sure slowed down a lot! And I found the same question on Yahoo! and a good answer.... But it still didn't help. It means, I have a virus now?

I'm sorry, but it is a virus! If the internet still work sufficiently get a free virus/antispyware program and scan the computer in safe mode. Then reboot and rescan. Spybot search and destroy is a good program! After you get rid off it, it will be hard to change your wallpaper back...

Yea, it is just as bad as a virus. I tried using spybot but it did not work. I found a trick though, on this removal guide http://www.spyware-techie.com/antivirusx... it shows you where you can reboot into safe mode and then remove it. Worked for me!!!!  It saved me $40 because it was free advice!

However, it could well be too late for that, I hope that I am wrong.

I tell you this, because 2 weeks ago, I got  antivirus xp 2008. I was stupid enough to go to a crack website. For months I advised a lot of askers here at Yahoo Answers never to go there. So I deserved to bd punished.

I tried everything to get rid of the antivirus xp 2008, but I was unable to.

I had to format my pc and reinstall windows XP Home.

Fortunately, I am  a kind of expert in that, so that was no problem,

I only can't believe, how I could have been so stupid to get the virus by going to a crack site. I stopped  doing that years age. Ii had become much too dangerous to go there.

Even when you would have updated avast, I still think, that you would have had the virus. It is a very smart one.

Again, I hope you succeed to get rid of it.

antivirus xp 2008 installs itself secretly without users consent so you can call it a virus. but viruses usually delete files and programs and corrupt programs and antivirus xp doesn't do these things, so it's not a virus. anyway antivirus xp is a computer parasite and a scam.
