  1. They are safe.  Most professional welders use auto darkening helmets these days.  Even cheap ones respond in an incredibly short time.  The cheap ones just don't hold up as well and many don't have as wide an adjustment range.  Ask around.  Some brands are very hard to buy parts for.  Others have parts readily available.  Get one that you can find the parts for.  Welding is hard on equipment.

They are good if you invest in a quality unit. some of these cheapys dont have a very quick sensing time and while tring to adjust sensitivity they start to flicker. you will notice your welding time cut down dramaticaly due to not having to fuss with the helmet. the sensing unit is battery powered so if it stops working, change them.

  3. they work good used a shade 10 doing mig and stick welding i can still see
