Is 'spelt' a word? Or do i have to say 'you spelled it wrong'?

Spelt sounds like such a good word, but every time i use it, firefox tells me its 'spelt/spelled' incorrectly. So im guessing its not a word (in my context) yes im aware it is a real word in other contexts. But doesnt saying 'you spelled it wrong' just sound incorrect?

My Oxford and Collins Cobuild dictionaries say that 'spelled and spelt' are acceptable. Firefox does make small little slips sometimes, so don't bother.  "You spelt it wrongly" and  "You spelt it wrong"  are universally accepted, but i prefer the first expression. But one must say "wrongly accused/dressed".   English certainly has quite a number of 'oddities' and we have to live with them!

no spelt is not a word. its spelled.

Spelt is a word. It is the past participle of spell.

It is also a type of wheat, and therefore also a noun.

It depends upon whether you are using British English (and Spelt is correct) or you are using American English.

I suggest that you go into Microsoft Word and change the language setting to "British English", then you will not have the problem when doing letters and essays etc.  You will still have the problem with Yahoo and a number of American sites.

Spelt is a word but it's chiefly a British past and past participle of spell.

Note:  It's also a noun.. it's a hexaploid species of wheat.

"You spelled it wrong" doesn't sound incorrect to me.

Other than that there is no word spelt in the American English language that has anything to do with spelling.

It is also pronounced spelled with a hard D on the end.

You spelled it incorrectly is correct.

well i think that spelt is more correct hen spelled because it sound more correct in    1.Past tense

                  2.Present tense

If you say spelled it just doesnt sound correct..
