Is 3g of iron more then 3 mg of iron?

and im going vegetarian and i was wondering if 3g of iron a day is enought because you need 14.8 mg perday.help.thanks.

  1. 3 grams = 3000 milligrams.

    The trick with taking iron supplements is that the body is not very good at absorbing iron; much or most of it just passes through. So it is important to take iron in a form that is easily absorbed, and if there is the slightest suspicion of anemia, to do a blood test.

    And indeed, it is possible to take too much iron, in supplement form though not likely in food.

    It breaks my heart to say it, but the very best, most absorbable form of iron is that in red meat, and especially in beef liver.

  4. I think the US RDA for iron is 18mg.  A gram is 1,000mg.  Please do not take more than the RDA for iron unless you've been directed to do so by a doctor.  Iron toxicity is as dangerous as iron deficiency.

    Iron is "trace elements" which require in a very small amount (12 to 18mg depending the age/weight) in our body. Excessive iron in our body will cause serious body toxicity and other hazards. Do not Over-traumatize with "iron" thingy. Proper vegan diet is ample for healthy living.

    Are you thinking of taking iron supplements?

    One should never, ever take iron supplements unless instructed to do so by a physician!  It can be very dangerous and cause serious health issues.  Besides, if your MD was instructing you to do so you wouldn't have to worry about the dosage (as they'd prescribe the right pill with the right dosage) and you could not poison yourself.

    Eat food.  Food is good for you.  Green food has iron.

  9. A milligram is 1/1000 of a gram, so 3 grams is more than enough.  In fact, I feel that it is too much.
