  1. sorry but no i run 2:34 for 800m...... and its going down.

    ..... i suggest u train more

  2. no, not really. a girl in my school can run it in about 2 min and 10 seconds. just keep working at it! :)

  3. i would say that is quite bad as my friend who isn't super talented can do it in 2:16 so that should tell you something

  4. Its not rubbish, but its not great. I think that other guy is being a bit harsh saying they could walk it in that, but i think average for schoolkids is around 4 mins (i dunno if you are a kid im just saying)

Oh and we have a track on a steep slope (?!) yeh i know its weird so its kinda hard for us!

  5. That really is not a very good 800 time.

    are you new to track?

  6. If you are trying to lose body fat, go for distance not speed.

  7. No that is acctually slow, but it would be a good 1600m time.

  8. No.  A competetive boy usually runs under 2 mins 2 max.  A competetive girl 2:20 or less.  These times are for high school athletes.  4:50 is not even a particuarly good mile time for a high school boy.  It is outstanding(state champ caliber) for a girl.  Boys neesd 4:30 miles or so.

  9. Wow, no.That's a near 10 minute mile..

If you would to run a 5 minute mile..then yeah, that's good.

  10. that would be a good 1600m time but 800m, no. i think i could walk 800m in 4 min 50 secs. if you are competing you should complete a lap in a minute or less to be competitive.

  11. a lot depends on gender and age of the athlete.  Male high school varsity athletes are going to be definitely under 2 minutes and the really good ones will be below 1:50.

World class 800m tend to get their fastest times at 22 and average world record holders is 25.  For a sprinter it has been shown that fast twitch muscle development peaks by about 20 so an 800m runner is going to be improving VO2 max and that takes a bit longer.  You can still become more powerful and efficient past 20 but one of your weapons is taken away.

So, depending on age and gender, and what you are trying to get out of the 800m, time becomes irrevelent.  I know college volleyball players that have to run a mile and have trouble getting the times their coaches have placed on them but put them on a court and they crush the competition.  Why you would have a volleyball player run a mile, I will never understand, but old school coaches . . .

    Good luck!
