  1. no...and sometimes their teeth won't be done moving completely...I've had mine for almost three years and the reason is that I moved, and I didn't get to go get them tightened for a long time, almost 6 months...so if  they have missed tightenings then they'll have to wear them longer. Also if their teeth haven't moved exactly how the orthodontist thought they would he may have to change the way they do the process so it might take another 8 months or so to get it right. My teeth look just fine, but they haven't moved the way the dentist hoped they would...so I have to wear them for another 8 months while they pull my back teeth forward to cover a gap in my mouth. You can hardly see the gap but i'm still gonna close it. It doesn't have a bad effect depending on how good your teeth are...now if your teeth are almost completely align with eachother, keeping the braces on for another year or so will move them again so they might not be as straight. But your orthodontist will let you know when it's time to take them off...

  2. Um dude above ^^

That would be called a retainer...

  3. Of course it depends from how crooked are your teeth, but even if it may be long you may try to wear invisible braces. So nobody will know you wear braces...

  4. Why would anyone want to keep them in longer than necessary? There isn't any medical side effect of keeping them in but I'd say the person was a little 'strange'. I wanted mine out asap!!!

  5. I would have worn them for 10 years if I had to in order to get perfect teeth.  I had mine for 3 years.

  6. No - everybody is different, and different treatment plans take different amounts of time.  Some of it depends on your age, too.  I had my braces 4 years and 7 months!  But I was an adult when I had them put on, so even though they "expected" 2 to 2-1/2 years, things took longer.  It was all worth it, though - every minute of it!  Your orthodontist will know the exact moment your braces are ready to come off - just trust him.

  7. I had a friend who had braces for 7 years, but it al lhas to do with how bad your teeth are.

A lot of the time, they will look good and looked fixed within a year, but u have to keep them on to make sure your teeth have setteled, that way they won't shift back into the old spots.

  8. it depends on how much work your teeth need i almost had mine on for 3 yrs. and my teeth were straight but i had an overbite so i needed to wear elastics to get my overbite from like 21 to 1 or 2. Everybody's different braces aren't just there to make your teeth straight they also do other things like I mentioned.

  9. your teeth beneath may get softer and yellow. Nothing to worry though, my friend had hers for 4 yrs, and i had mine for 2 1/2. Its normal.
