I'm planning to buy a 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage (US version, Lancer in Japan) and renovate it to Evolution III. The thing is I would like to change the whole engine to 4G63. Unfortunately, they don't have 1993 Evo III engine available. All they have is 4G63 for EVO IX. I wonder if I can use it as an engine for EVO III. Thanks

  1. you just answer your own question. the 4g63 is the engine found on all EVO's no matter if is a 1993 or a 2003 a 4g63 is a 4g63.

  2. In a word, No. The Evo III has the front of the motor on the drivers side. The Evo IX has the front of the motor on the PASSENGER side. It WILL NOT FIT. If you have to ask the question on Yahoo answers, you do not have the technical skill to perform this swap. Buy a motor from a first generation Eclipse GSX and do it the easy way. After the Evo iv, the motors are reversed.

  3. Yes You Can

  4. The Evo 9 motor also has the RETARDED MIVEC system. If you want the evo motor get the evo 8 motor. The BEST bet is to get a fully built evo motor from a place like bushar racing and go.

  5. Are you on www.mirageforums.net ? If not, I highly reccomending registering

You have to keep it in the same genertion, so An Evo9 engine's not gonna work. The mounts are different, along with the ECU and other various wiring. Since you've done your basic homework, you might give Jhot Imports a call and see if they can get an Evo 1-3 engine/transmission for you. They're one of the better suppliers, I've bought parts from them several times via ebay and they're always A+ in everything they do. If they say the engine works fine, it does.
