  1. I would say you are about just right.  Having just watched the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, it was stated that all the horses were all carrying a certain amount of weight, I think it was in the 130 lb. range.  If you are under that weight, they put weights in the horses saddle.

  2. You are a perfect height and weight for a jockey. If you are interested in learning about the profession, former great jockey Chris McCarron has opened a school for people to learn what it takes to be a pro. Just type his name in a web search and you will be able to check it out.

  3. you are at the perfect level, but if you gain 6 more pounds they would have to call you fat boy....quarter horse jockeys ride at 124lbs..so you are still safe, if that is your dream go for it, and remember don't take chances in a race...always ride so you can ride another race...good luck...

  4. You got it.... drive toward your dreams but don't kill yourself trying!!!!  Its a tough life, a childhood dream of mine.... I don't make the cut though!  Just work hard and stay healthy, if you are weak trying... you can't make a great jockey.  You need to hit the marks and be STRONG, horse racing is not for the faint hearted or faint bodied!

Love always... what an awesome dream!!!! Good luck to you!! Hope to see you at the Derby and beyond!

  5. It sounds like you are just about right, but losing another 5 pounds would put you in where you could ride lightweights. I wanted to be a jockey when I was younger but at 5'7" and 135 pounds, I'm simply too tall and heavy.

Some races are where all horses carry the same weight. Others are handicap races where the weight the horse carries is based on a number of factors (a handicap jock could tell you exactly what they are) and the effort is made to give each horse an equal chance at winning.

Horseracing requires enormous strength and high skill. It takes many many hours of practice and training before you would ride a race. If that's what you want to do, I say go for it. Good luck!

  6. I'm a jockey here in Australia, and you are the perfect height and weight for being a jockey.I'm 5'6 and on race day I get down to 53.5kgs.Min weight where I'm at is 55kgs,so you have got no worries,go ahead with this career.Good Luck.

  7. It isnt too heavy, although you may want to consider losing ten or so pounds so you could enjoy the weight concessions given to apprentices. And 5' 3" definitely isnt too tall as there are jockeys out there as tall as 5'9", maybe even taller.

  8. Nope that's perfect!! the only tricky part is to keep your weight that small!!!
