Is 5'7 98lbs too thin?

i don't feel like i am underweight but in the last 5 months i have dropped about 13lbs. Recently my friends have been saying that I'm too thin but i just ignore them.

it's not like i don't eat anything. i have a full three meals a day and couple of snacks before i go to bed but only usually have around 1000-1200 calories a day

  1. I just checked the BMI (body mass index) for your height and weight. Any BMI under 18.5 is considered underweight, and you're only at 15.3. So, yes, you are too thin. The least you should weigh for your height is 120. Eat more healthy foods, or you'll look like you're 60 when you're 40.

  3. Everyone is different, ask your doctor if you are a healthy weight and if you need to make any dietary changes. After that you can tell your friends you are healthy and thats just how thin you are

  4. Yes, that is way too thin to be healthy.  You're not getting enough nutrition for your body to run.  You should gain at least 20 pounds.

  6. Yeah, your really skinny and need to gain those 13 pounds back but I'm sure it isn't your fought because you probably just have fast metabolisms.

    You should be getting at least 1500 calories a day to maintain a healthy weight.

    1000-1200 calories a day just doesn't cut it - you're starving yourself, even if you don't think you are.

  9. If you lost 13 lbs within a month I'd say there is something wrong. Go to the doctor and get your thyroid checked out, you may have hyperthyroidism which is a condition that causes your metabolism to be very fast.

    I'm 5'3" and around 85 lbs myself and have had my thyroid checked many times. The doctor said I just have an abnormally high metabolism. For a person of my height, the BMI scale says that I should be around 101 lbs. The difference is that I haven't lost a huge chunk of weight for the first time recently like you have.

    Anyways, just make an appointment with your doctor to see what's going on.

    I'd suggest eating more calories, but eat foods with lots of vitamins and nutrients.

    If you are truly eating enough then don't worry about your weight too much.

    It might just be the way your body is and you're just naturally thin.

  11. yea, that is really thin.  you must have a very good metablolism!!  as long as you're eating 3 meals a day, and snakcing, then you should be fine though.

  12. Yes, that is pretty thin. But if you are comfortable and healthy, then don't worry about it.
