Is 5.4 a normal blood sugar level in the morning?

My mum's a Type 2 diabetic and she sometimes check my blood sugar levels from time to time even though I've not been diagnosed to be a diabetic myself. I'm usually around about 4.5 before breakfast but I've been tested as 5.4 this time round and now it's got her worried. I read somewhere that menstruation affects sugar levels and I haven't had my period yet. So... should I be concerned?

  1. Totally normal .Don't worry about it .I'm diabetic and they say my levels are really good at at 5.8 so your's are good

  2. Visit my blog site and print off the Blood Glucose Level Chart. Now you will have a reference when you need it.

    Best Wishes.

  3. After a 12 hour fast, a range of 3.9 to 6.5 mmol/l (70.2 to 117 mg/dl) is normal. (a level of 6.7 to 7 mmol/l (120.6 to 126 mg/dl) is considered a sign of prediabetes)

To convert blood glucose readings:- Divide the mg/dL by 18 to get mmol/L. Multiply the mmol/L by 18 to get mg/dL.

    mmol/L = millimoles per litre.

    mg/dL = milligrams per decilitre.

  4. Blood sugar levels should range from 4-7 in the morning. There should be no need for you to check the levels if you are not diagnosed as being such.

There are a number of medical condition and natural bodily processes that may have effect of the sugar levels. if you are cocerned then you should speak to a diabetic specialist  nurse, who will be able to give you all the advice you seek.

  5. Hey,

I am diabetic and yeah thats perfectly fine even though you're not actually diabetic.

As long as it's between 4-7 its normal, so don't worry if it sometimes changes.
