Question:

Is 50 watts of 5.1 surround sound enough, will it be loud enough?

the speakers will be in my bedroom and i dont want it to be ear blasting but will 50 watts be enough so the sound is quite loud without being distorted?

  1. Depends on the make of your speakers. i used 6 2watts and it sounded amazing for me u should be fine.


  2. 50 watts should be plenty.

  3. It should be, but it depends on the efficiency of the speakers; if they are moderately efficient or better, you'll find 50 watts to be plenty loud and without distortion.

  4. Well... I have a 75 watt Yamaha that can drive huge tower speakers. But the power ratings on my receiver specify:

    - All 5 speakers driven

    - resistive 8 ohm load

    - 0.06% THD

    And Yamaha tends to be honest in it's numbers.

    So if your amp says "Yamaha, Dennon, Pioneer Elite, Sony ES" - it is likely enough. But if it's a budget amp, my advice would be to hit CraigsList and find a name-brand receiver.  Some really good units from a few years ago are good prices.
