  1. yes you could manage London for 2 weeks on that amount but you would need to keep an eye on how much you're spending ... you may not be paying for breakfast and evening meal but sightseeing is very tiring and you can easily end up spending far too much money on coffees and soft drinks (find a supermarket and buy drinks there rather than in a cafe) ... also you need to be careful not to try to visit too many places that have a high admission charge (e.g. Madame Tussauds) but the good news is that the big museums are all free

a trip to Edinburgh would be expensive ... that in itself for transport, accommodation even just for one night based on two sharing a room (if you're on your own there would be a single supplement), meals etc would cost you at least £150-£200 ... it's too far to do it as a day trip

there are many places you could visit as day trips within 1-2 hours travelling distance of London - e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, Canterbury, Brighton, Bath ... there are also companies such as Evan Evans do day trips out of London visiting all sorts of places, they tend to be a bit expensive but you get to see a lot in just one day

  2. If you're not paying for accommodation, then that'll see you round London if you plan well. You won't have enough money to see Edinburgh-transport an accommodation would eat up your budget.

  3. it will cost a bit to get to edinburgh and places so i would up it to a thousand

  4. 500 for 14 days is around 35/day.

For lunch, getting around, and a few admissions

it is enough, but it's not a lot and you'll have to

    watch your expenses carefully.

(If the 14 days include the arrival and departure

days, then it's really 12 days, or about 42/day.)

Rather than bringing a set amount in cash or

traveler's checks, a better plan is to leave money

in your home bank account and take ATM withdrawals

as needed.  They should be large enough that you

don't have to make too many (and incur a fee each

time), and small enough so that you're not carrying

a large amount around in case it is lost or stolen.

  5. That is not a great deal of money, unless you book in advance for a ticket to edinburgh you are alooking at £100 for a train ticket and at least 50-70 pounds per night accommodation.  There are loads of budget stuff to do as well and you could ask your host if they will do a picnic lunch a couple of days.
