I am going back to bangkok to finish my education at a private school. I will be going there with my stepfather and was wondering if 52,000 B a month is enough for me and him ( Excluding Rent ). Ie for water bills, food, travel, leisure etc.

Thanks,

Luke.

  1. If you're including the tuition at some of the international schools in Bangkok in the 52,000 baht, then I would say no, it's not enough. If the tuition is not part of the 52,000 then you should be fine. If you eat at the farang restaurants frequently or do your shopping at the farang grocery stores like Villa Market in the Sukhumvit area, you'll put a serious dent in your budget. If you learn to eat and shop like the locals at least part of the time, you should have enough for some travel and fun. Water here is very cheap, electricity bills can be on the high side if you're not careful about your air-conditioning use and if you eat the local food, food can be very cheap, good luck.

  2. If you are Thai then no problem but if you are Farang then you will have to become more like a Thai.

  3. if its only spending money, you will live extremely well there

  4. Considering the average Thai earns 6000 baht I would say you are doing fine.

Oh the negative (thumbs down) are from lovers who can make the grade (small thumbs you know).

  5. for what you mentioned, it is more than adequate.  track your first months expenses to get a feel for the cost of living here, and adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

I would highly recommend having a credit facility before coming here or at the very least good insurance.  Other than that, you two should be in good shape.

    Good luck.

  6. It should be, I live very comfortable on that amount, as long as your not big drinkers and womanizers.

  7. Well, THB 52,000 for two people is just enough to get by comfortably. Most money is spent on rent which you don't have. So then taking time to get out of the city every month to keep you sanity is important but not expensive. I think you will be fine, but not rich.
