Hi, I would like to be a pilot in the RAF. However I am aware of height restrictions but I am not sure what they are. Are there height restrictions on transport pilots or helicopter pilots etc?

Thanks

  1. Actually it's your sitting height that's the key for ejection seat aircraft.  I'm 6'2" and I fit in the back of an F4 without any problems.  A good friend of mine is 6'4" and was a B1 Offensive Systems Officer (nav) as well.  Don't let that discourage you from applying.

    Good Luck.

  2. Possibly, but as I understand it, it has more to do with thigh length. This is for the ejection scenario. I may be wrong but I think that is the case.

  3. No sir...there is no height limit I am a 6'2 pilot in the air force..the only rhing you have to look out for is jokes about ur size lol

  4. For fast jet aircraft (Air Combat) there are size restrictions due to the size of the cockpit. I believe you overall height must be less than 6ft 3. There are also certain restriction on thigh length, and waist size, (you can not have "large" pilots. The answer for you second question is as follows. For "Transport Aircraft" (Combat Support Aircraft) there are no size restrictions. For Rotary Aircraft I am unsure of the restriction, i think that this depend on the OCU (Operational Combat Unit), what chopper you fly.

Last Note: RAF and USAF regulations are differernt - king want to join the RAF not the air force (the americanism).
